Ballroom Dance Instructor

"My interest in ballroom began in an unusual way. My years in martial arts led me
to many competitions and demonstrations in the Mid Atlantic area. I was an avid competitor for several years and after I retired
from tournament competition, I taught in the Jhoon Rhee system for ten years. During that time I was introduced to Martial Ballet where martial art
forms were combined with classical music, such as Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. This combination of music and martial
art forms helped me to better understand rhythm, timing and movement. I discovered that there many similarities between dancing
and martial arts so the transition was natural and as an added benefit, my dance partners rarely gave me bruises. My other passion is golf and my game has improved because of a better balance and timing.
Dance has enhanced my understanding of footwork and body positions so I am more aware of what is happening in my golf
swing. I bet it will help your game too. "Without question, the Salsa is my favorite dance. I find the music to be fun, up tempo
and I never tire of the lyrics. To my ear, the voices are another instrument in the song. The music never grows old. The Salsa
provides great opportunity to be creative and have fun. People smile when they dance Salsa. I want students to have as much
fun as I do. I teach social dancing
with an emphasis on enjoying every minute. A teacher of mind once referred to dance as
joyful recreation and that phrase
really made sense to me and I want my students to have joyful recreation in their lives. "I have always believed that knowing how to dance was a desirable social skill
and part of being a gentleman."
